On Thursday 29th November Anglia Ruskin University's Faculty of Science & Technology welcomed BBC Radio 4 to the Cambridge Campus to record an interview for a show called "The Life Scientific" in our recently redeveloped audio studios.

Anglia Ruskin University's audio studios re-opened in September 2012 after a £1.2m redevelopment, providing our Audio and Music Technology, Media and Internet Technology, and Computer Gaming students with a range of industry standard recording equipment and software, housed within 162 sq meters of purpose built recording and studio space.

In the session Professor Jim Al-Khalilli interviewed Nobel prize-winning developmental biologist Sir John Gurdon about his career and ground breaking work the fields of nuclear transfer and cloning, and what his discoveries might do for mankind. The show is to be aired on Tuesday the 18th December.

The team from the BBC were supported during the recording by one of the department's MSc Audio and Video Technology students, Jamie Currie, who fulfilled the role of tape-op under the guidance of the studio team led by Studio Manager Nick Townsend, who commented, "It is immensely encouraging to be able to attract and welcome such high profile clients and their world respected guest into our studios so soon after the commission of the facilities.

"The opportunities such initiatives present to the Department, Faculty, and University are invaluable; being able to offer students the chance to gain work experience alongside professionals from one of the nations most respected broadcasters is a claim that many institutions would wish to boast yet only the most 'upwardly mobile' can lay claim to. The studio team looks forward to building on this relationship and forging others as plans to utilise the new facilities for income generation are finalised and the Studios made available for commercial hire."
